2022 POKÉMON WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS: STARTING TODAY IN LONDON

The 2022 Pokémon World Championships are in full swing, with Trainers from around the world competing in the Pokémon Trading Card Game.

In Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield , Pokémon GO , Pokkén Tournament DX and Pokémon UNITE at ExCel London.

Pikachu has been spotted in major London landmarks ahead of the Championships. For the first time in history, the best of Pokémon tournaments will take place in Europe, with London as the host city. The capital of the United Kingdom, in fact, is ready to welcome players and Pokémon for the big event to be held this week, from 18 to 21 August 2022, at the London ExCeL.

To make the journeys of travelers around the city special, the Transport for London (TfL) has received a special restyling, with the cabins of the London Cable Car crossing the Thames between the Greenwich Peninsula and the Royal Docks branded ad hoc to represent the 18 different types of Pokémon: Normal, Fire, Water, Grass, Electric, Ice, Fighting, Poison, Ground, Flying, Psychic, Beetle, Rock, Ghost, Dragon, Dark, Steel and Fairy. Fans will have the unique opportunity to take a trip up the Thames with their favorite Pokémon. The initiative extends to both terminals of the gondola from August 17-23, with lots of Pokémon surprises for passengers and opportunities to take unforgettable photos.

The best Pokémon players will compete in the Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield video games, the Pokémon Trading Card Game, Pokkén Tournament DX, Pokémon UNITE and Pokémon GO to win the title of World Champion. Players will compete for more than $ 1,000,000 (over £ 800,000) in prize money and look for the title of Pokémon World Champion, as well as invitations to next year’s World Championships.

These will be fun days for Pikachu as he will be able to admire some of London’s most iconic locations ahead of the Pokémon World Championships. We are thrilled to partner with TfL on the themed customization of the London cable car, so that our fans can interact with the brand even on the way to the Championships. Many of our fans have traveled far and wide, so we also wanted to offer them this special opportunity to immerse themselves in the Pokémon world they love so much. Now they can do it while enjoying the beautiful view of London.

said Peter Murphy, Senior Marketing Director of The Pokémon Company International.

Prior to the event, The Pokémon Company President and CEO Tsunekazu Ishihara welcomed everyone to the exciting World Cup experience and shared some news about Pokémon Masters EX and Pokémon UNITE. First, Ishihara announced that Ash and Pikachu will make their debut as the master unit in Pokémon Masters EX. They will form the first Unit to have a brand new type of move: the synchro move. Sync moves activate after certain conditions are met and deal far more damage than normal moves. You will be able to find Ash and Pikachu from 06:00 (UTC) on August 28, 2022 to 05:59 (UTC) on October 17, 2022.

It was also announced that the Trainer Lounge , a novelty that allows you to create wonderful memories with your favorite Trainers in Pokémon Masters EX, will be available from 06:00 (UTC) on August 25, 2022. Among the first characters you can invite to the Coaches Lounge you will find familiar faces such as Blu, Camilla and Lylia. With Pokémon Masters EX’s third anniversary approaching, you’ll be able to earn up to 10,000 Gems during the Third Anniversary Eve Campaign and find up to 100 Units with 10 Daily Unit Research Tickets. These gifts will only be available for a limited time, so be sure to drop by Pasio to enjoy the anniversary celebrations too!

Pokémon UNITE, which celebrated its first anniversary in July of this year, made its World Cup debut with some cool news. A new arena has been discovered on the Isle of Heos – the Heavenly Ruins of Theia! At the center of the map is the legendary Pokémon Rayquaza, ready to face any challenger. You will be able to participate in both standard and competitive battles in this arena starting September 2, 2022.

Ishihara also assured that during the closing ceremony of the Pokémon World Championships 2022, which will be held on August 21, 2022, news will be revealed on the Pokémon Trading Card Game and on Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, whose release worldwide is scheduled for November 18, 2022.
