Universal may be close to signing a deal with Nintendo to produce a film adaptation of The Legend of Zelda video game . This news comes on the heels of the hugely successful Super Mario Bros .
which has surpassed the $1 billion mark in global gross. Although there is still no official confirmation, it seems that the project – again an animated film – is in development, as confirmed by Jeff Sneider in his podcast The Hot Mic :
I’ve been told that Universal is actually closing a big deal with Nintendo for Legend of Zelda. It looks like Zelda is going to be the next big Illumination-Nintendo franchise, which we’ve all been expecting.
We recall that in the past there has also been an attempt to create a series inspired by The Legend of Zelda , one of the most famous and beloved video game sagas ever. Specifically, there was talk of a live-action Netflix adaptation , but the project never went into production.
That’s all for now, as always we will keep you updated.
UPDATE: as reported by Worldofreel other projects are also in development, such as Super Mario Bros 2, Luigi’s Mansion, Donkey Kong but obviously there are no official confirmations.
