All Quiet on the Western Front is directed by Edward Berger , director of Patrick Melrose and Deutschland ’83 . The film will be performed in German and the cast includes Daniel Brühl , Felix Kammerer, Albrecht Schuch, Moritz Klaus, Aaron Hilmer, Edin Hasanovic. Adrian Grünewald, Devid Striesow, Andreas Döhler, Sebastian Hülk, Alexander Schuster. Luc Feit, Michael Wittenborn, Michael Stange, André Marcon, Tobias Langhoff and Anton von Lucke . Berger co-wrote the screenplay with Ian Stokell and Lesley Paterson . The film is produced by Malte Grunert of Amusement Park Film.
Remarque’s novel has been adapted twice, both times into the English language. The 1930 version, All New West , was produced in America. The 1979 TV version, All Quiet on the Western Front , in the UK. This will therefore be the first adaptation in German.
The official synopsis
All Quiet on the Western Front tells the gripping story of a young German soldier on the Western Front during World War I. Paul and his companions experience firsthand how the initial euphoria of war turns to despair and fear as they find themselves fighting for their lives and each other in the trenches. The film by director Edward Berger is based on the famous bestseller of the same name by Erich Maria Remarque.
