Amazon plans to launch its own Alexa- integrated smart TVs in October to compete against Samsung, LG and Sony.
According to a Business Insider report, Amazon plans to launch a private label smart TV in the United States to compete against large companies such as Samsung, LG, and Sony, citing sources familiar with the matter.
Amazon TVs are expected to be large-screen models between 55 and 75 inches; they will have compatibility with the virtual assistant Alexa. The launch will be in the United States after almost two years between the Amazon Devices and Lab126 divisions.
These new Amazon Smart TVs are designed and manufactured by third parties, including TCL, a Chinese manufacturer that also made televisions for Alcatel and Samsung.
Amazon TVs
The e-commerce giant already sells televisions; AmazonBasics in India launched late last year, where a 50-inch one costs $ 506. With this new launch, the company intends to build a larger ecosystem of devices and services, including Amazon Prime, Alexa, and its sales website.
A foray into this market would put Amazon in direct competition against Samsung, LG, and Sony, who typically sell their televisions through the Amazon website.
