Even Tony Gilroy joined the writers’ strike , as it was easy to imagine.
The Andor creator and showrunner spoke to The Hollywood Reporter , explaining that he has not only halted his writing work on the series, but his producer duties as well.
The second season of Andor has already been written, so filming can continue, but the absence of the showrunner on the set could cause some difficulties. Here are his statements:
I stopped writing and all work connected with writing Andor before midnight on May 1st. After the briefing at Saturday’s showrunner meeting, I informed Chris Keyser of the Writing Guild Association Sunday morning that I would also be ceasing non-writing production duties.
That’s because Gilroy is also an executive producer on the series, of course. For the moment we do not know if the production will be affected, but certainly the scripts cannot be changed during construction. Disney would have reminded the showrunners that they are contractually obligated to fulfill their non-writing duties (such as those related to the role of producers), but this injunction would have been met very negatively. We’ll see.
The second season will consist of four blocks of three episodes each, set one year apart from each other; thus, the installments will cover the time frame leading up to the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story . It is expected to be released in the summer of 2024 on Disney+ . We will keep you posted.
The official synopsis
Andor will explore a new perspective on the Star Wars galaxy, focusing on Cassian Andor’s journey to discover how he can make a difference. The series will tell the story of the nascent rebellion against the Empire and how people and planets became involved. It is an age full of danger, deception and intrigue in which Cassian will embark on the path destined to transform him into a rebel hero.

In addition to Diego Luna , Stellan Skarsgård , Adria Arjona , Genevieve O’Reilly , Denise Gough and Kyle Soller also star in the cast .
The creator
The show was created by Tony Gilroy , former director of Michael Clayton, Duplicity and The Bourne Legacy , as well as screenwriter of many other well-known Hollywood films. He also co-wrote Rogue One itself , and directed uncredited reshoots .
The producers
The executive producers are Kathleen Kennedy, Sanne Wohlenberg, Michelle Rejwan and Diego Luna himself .
