Minions 2: How Gru Becomes Terrible will have its world premiere at the Grande Salle de Bonlieu on 13 June .

Marcel Jean , the Artistic Director, said:

“The Minions franchise is inextricably linked to Annecy. As early as 2010, Despicable Me left its mark on the event, and since then every film in the series has started its success here. Annecy’s enthusiastic audience is the best there is to cheerfully celebrate the return of this cheery crew that is the symbol of Illumination’s success.

We hope to see audiences return to cinemas in large numbers and we all need frivolity and laughter. This is why Minions 2: How Gru becomes very bad seemed to us the perfect film to open the 2022 edition of the Festival. It is also an opportunity for the Festival to highlight French and American skills. We thank Illumination and Universal Pictures for offering this wonderful gift to the festival-goers. “

The synopsis

Minions 2 is set after the events of the 2015 film, in the heart of the 70’s. 12-year-old Felonious Gru, who grew up in the suburbs, is a fanboy of a group of supervillains known as the Vicious 6. Gru devises a plan to become evil enough to join them. When the Vicious 6 sack their leader, the legendary Wild Knuckles fighter, Gru is interviewed to become their new member.

It doesn’t pass, and things take a turn for the worse when Gru robs them with the help of Kevin, Stuart, Bob, Otto, and the other Minions and suddenly becomes the deadly enemy of the apex of evil. On the run, Gru and the Minions will turn to an unlikely source of guidance, the Wild Knuckles himself, and find that even the baddies need a little help from their friends.
