The opening film of the 2022 edition of the Annecy Film Festival was announced today.

Minions 2: How Gru Becomes Terrible will have its world premiere at the Grande Salle de Bonlieu on 13 June .

Marcel Jean , the Artistic Director, said:

“The Minions franchise is inextricably linked to Annecy. As early as 2010, Despicable Me left its mark on the event, and since then every film in the series has started its success here. Annecy’s enthusiastic audience is the best there is to cheerfully celebrate the return of this cheery crew that is the symbol of Illumination’s success.

We hope to see audiences return to cinemas in large numbers and we all need frivolity and laughter. This is why Minions 2: How Gru becomes very bad seemed to us the perfect film to open the 2022 edition of the Festival. It is also an opportunity for the Festival to highlight French and American skills. We thank Illumination and Universal Pictures for offering this wonderful gift to the festival-goers. “
