One of the most anticipated events of this edition of the Annecy Festival is the Netflix Animation Showcase which will take place on June 15th at 1.30pm at the Theater Bonlieu.
The next animated projects of the platform will be presented, from series to movies, from preschool, to anime, to tentpole for families, to projects for adults.
Guillermo del Toro will show the first shot of Pinocchio , the stop-motion film inspired by the novel by Carlo Collodi . In addition, a taste of Entergalactic will be offered, the animated project created by Kenya Barris and Scott “Kid Cudi” Mescudi , based on the latter’s self-titled album.
A behind-the-scenes look at the making of ‘ Bad Traveling ‘ will be offered, the animated short directed by David Fincher featured in volume 3 of the anthological series Love, Death + Robots , created by Tim Miller .
Also shown will be: The monster deimari (Chris Williams); Wendell & Wild (Henry Sellick); My Father’s Dragon (Nora Twomey); The Magician’s Elephant (Wendy Rogers); Drifting Home (Hiroyasu Ishida); Nimona (Nick Bruno & Troy Quane); Spirit Rangers (Chris Nee and Karissa Valencia); My Dad The Bounty Hunter (Everett Downing and Patrick Harpin).
Netflix in Annecy
On Monday June 13th at 5.00pm, Chris Nee the creator and executive producer of Doc McStuffins , and preschool series Ada Twist, Scientist, Ridley Jones and We the People will hold a Masterclass at Petite Salle Bonlieu.
The lesson will be on the power of inclusion in storytelling. Also participating will be Karissa Valencia , creator of Spirit Rangers who will offer a first look at the series.
On June 15 at 9.00am, Sony Pictures Animation will present the Netflix animated series for an adult audience: Agent King at the Impérial Palace . Fletcher Moules, Robert Valley and Antonio Canobbio will participate .
Also on June 15, at 6.00pm at the Theater Bonlieu, the world premiere of The Monster of the Seas , the animated feature film by Chris Williams , will be held .
The film is set in a time when terrifying beasts roamed the seas, monster hunters were celebrated heroes, and no one was more loved than the great Jacob Holland. But when young Maisie Brumble embarks on her legendary ship, she finds herself with an unexpected ally. Together they embark on an epic journey into uncharted waters and go down in history.
A behind-the-scenes look at the making of the film is set for the next day, June 16th at 2.00pm at the Salle Pierre Lamy. Chris Williams and the film staff will participate.
Work in Progress
Nora Twomey ‘s My Father ‘s, produced by Cartoon Saloon , will be presented in the Work in Progress section on July 15th at 9.30am in the Salle Pierre Lamy.The journey of Elmer, who comes to terms with his move to the city with his mother and escapes in search of the Wild Island and a young dragon waiting to be saved. Elmer’s adventures lead him to meet ferocious beasts, a mysterious island and the friendship of a lifetime.
Finally on June 17th at 2.00pm, Dice Tsutsumi, Sara K. Sampson, Robert Kondo, Mari Okada and Kane Lee of Tonko House will present Oni: Thunder God’s Tale in the Work in Progress section.
