Apple adds advanced fitness and sleep tracking features in watchOS 9

Apple has announced during its WWDC 2022 event that watchOS 9 will arrive in the coming months along with new features included in the update for Apple Watch .


During its WWDC 2022 event , Apple previewed watchOS 9 , including new customizable watch faces, an improved Workout app, Sleep Stages, and an all-new Medicines app.

Apple is adding more builds to smartwatch displays with watchOS 9 . The update will also introduce four new skins:

  • astronomy
  • Mole
  • Play time
  • Metropolitan


Apple’s Podcasts app will add new features, including the ability to search for shows from the Apple Watch , access to the Listen Now feature, and the Kids app with Family Setup .


Apple’s Workouts app is a big update to exercise tracking with running heart rate zones and lots of other new features. The company is also adding the Fitness app for all iPhone users, Apple Watch not required.


watchOS 9 improves sleep tracking with sleep stages (REM, Core, Deep) and a new AFib history study pending FDA approval .


Medications is a new medication tracking app on iPhone and Apple Watch. This feature allows you to scan medication labels from iPhone and get features like reminders and more in the new app.

  • Cross-device connectivity between Apple Watch and Apple TV

watchOS 9 will be available on Apple Watch Series 4 and later in late September.
