The postponements were being caused by delays caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

James Wan , the director of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom , confirmed with a post on social media that they are behind with post-production:

“Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will be released on March 17, 2023.

I am working non-stop, day and night (at least 15 hours a day), on my director’s cut from my home set-up. Thank God for the great desk!

For a film that is mostly visual effects, I’m thankful for the extra time it takes to get this thing right. Working with revolutionary new technology, I am amazed at some of the first tests that are coming. I’m cautiously optimistic and excited, and can’t wait to share it when the time comes. ”

The plot

It is still unknown, but it is possible that the “lost kingdom” of the title is  Necrus , an underwater city that appeared in  Aquaman # 30  (not surprisingly, the working title is  Necrus ). Nicknamed “the black city”, it is ruled by  King Mongo , and is a highly militarized society that responds violently to any surface interference. It appears each time in a different place on the globe, but only when an alien satellite enters Earth’s orbit.

The cast

The cast includes  Jason Momoa  ( Aquaman ),  Amber Heard  ( Mera ),  Willem Dafoe  ( Vulko ),  Patrick Wilson  ( Ocean Master ),  Nicole Kidman  ( Atlanna ),  Temuera Morrison  ( Thomas Curry ),  Yahya Abdul Mateen II  ( Black Manta ),  Dolph Lundgren  ( King Nereus ),  Ludi Lin  ( Murk ) and  Randall Park  ( Dr. Stephen Shin ) and  Pilou Asbæk .
