The Oscars ceremony is approaching, and Avatar: The Water Route is nominated in four categories: Best Picture, Special Effects, Production Design and Sound.
Well, the new featurette is dedicated precisely to the sets.
In reality, with production design we mean the entire design of the production down to the smallest details, including objects, as we can see in this study. The sets are largely digital, but that doesn’t matter: what matters is the creative work, the conception of the settings and the elements that inhabit them (costumes aside, there’s another category for those). Pandora’s alien vehicles, creatures and plants also fall under production design .
However, the success of the film has allowed James Cameron to confirm future sequels, which then will be made. Last December we discovered that the BBC had already unveiled the titles in 2018, but we don’t know if they will be confirmed: they would be Avatar: The Seed Bearer , Avatar: The Tulkun Rider and Avatar: The Quest for Eywa . In addition to Avatar 3 , some parts of the fourth have already been filmed, to avoid the ” Stranger Things effect ” linked to the aging of child and adolescent actors.
We will keep you posted. Meanwhile, you can watch the featurette below.
