In 2017, before Greta Gerwig took over the reins of Barbie , the film was supposed to star the comedian and actress Amy Schumer .
Now, interviewed during an episode of the Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen talk show , Schumer has opened up about the project for the first time since the cancellation.
“They said I was too thin,” Amy Schumer joked, adding:
I can’t wait to see the movie. I think it looks great. I think it was said that there was an overlap of commitments. This we said. But in reality they were creative differences. But there’s a new team behind the project and it looks very feminist and cool, so I’ll see it.
Andy Cohen then asked her if she thought her version wasn’t just as feminist and beautiful. “Yeah,” Schumer replied.

Greta Gerwig ( Lady Bird, Little Women ) co-wrote the screenplay with Noah Baumbach ( Marriage Story ). Margot Robbie will produce under her LuckyChap Entertainment banner with partner Tom Ackerley . Robbie Brenner will produce for Mattel, David Heyman for Heyday Films. LuckyChap’s Josey McNamara and Mattel’s Ynon Kreiz serve as executive producers.
