Benedict Cumberbatch is about to welcome a Ukrainian refugee family.
The actor had already declared his intention at the previous British Academy Film Awards in March.
But now, during a London photocall forDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness , he added that the family “managed to leave Ukraine”. Cumberbatch said he is “monitoring their progress every day”:
Unfortunately they are undergoing medical treatment. To say more about this would be an invasion of their privacy, and to say too much about when they will arrive and how it will be handled would be an invasion of mine. But I want to give them some stability after the riots they have experienced, and they will find it in my house.
The actor said he also helped other families, through the charity Refugees at Home :
I am trying to help other Ukrainian families – Ukrainian citizens who have British citizenship – to welcome their extended families en masse. One thing they obviously want to do, but it’s very expensive. So I tried to contribute financially on a couple of occasions.
Refugees at Home also provides psychological support to refugees:
However kind, generous and welcoming we may be as guests, we don’t have the skills of mental health professionals to take care of these things.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will be released in Italian cinemas on May 4th. HERE you can find the trailer and HERE a recent clip. HERE instead the details on the presentation of the film at CinemaCon in Las Vegas.
