Microsoft founder and former chairman Bill Gates has announced the release of a new book, ” How to Prevent the Next Pandemic ,” on his Gates Notes blog. In this book, which will appear on bookstore shelves May 3, he shares findings from the current COVID-19 pandemic and  recommendations on how to stop the next one.

“I think COVID-19 may be the last pandemic, ” Gates said at the beginning of his post . “Every time I see the suffering that COVID-19 has caused, every time I read about the latest death toll or hear about someone who has lost their job or goes through a closed school, I can’t help but say to myself: no we have to experience this ever again”.

The new book is in line with Bill Gates ‘ ambitions to save the world. His previous book is called ” How to Avoid Climate Disaster ” and outlines a plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to zero by 2050.

How to prevent another pandemic?, by Bill Gates

“I have been thinking about this for a long time and COVID-19 has only shown me more clearly that the world must prioritize fighting pandemics as a threat to humanity,” said Gates, who has been following the epidemic since its inception. and working with infectious disease experts for decades.

The book outlines the concrete steps we can take not only to stop future pandemics , but also to ensure better health care for everyone in the world. It mentions the lessons we can learn from this pandemic, the innovations we need to save lives, and the new tools needed to stop pathogens in a timely and effective manner.

To do this, highlight three specific keys.

  1. Improve healthcare globally
  2. Detect viruses early
  3. Innovate in diagnostics, treatment and vaccines, and find the best ways to distribute them

“The goal of never having a pandemic again is ambitious, but the progress we have made in the last two years, including the great boom in vaccines and knowledge about respiratory diseases, has already led us to achieve it. The world now understands how seriously we must take pandemics, and the initiative is on our side. There is no need to convince anyone that infectious diseases can kill millions of people or bring the global economy to a halt. If we make the right decision and invest well, COVID-19 could become the last pandemic,” Bill Gates promises future readers.

Gates “predicted” a pandemic long before it started. In a 2015 TED talk, he said, “If something kills more than 10 million people in the next few decades, it’s most likely a highly infectious virus.” This made it the center of conspiracy theories of the current pandemic.
