Black Panther: Wakanda Forever , released today in Italian cinemas, has only one “extra” scene placed during the credits.
The production wisely decided not to add a second one at the end of the reel, as it would have risked ruining the tone of the film, demystifying the celebration of the late Chadwick Boseman and the elaboration of collective mourning. In reality, the samemid-creditsis very different from the usual: it is not a simple “bonus”, but the ideal completion of the epilogue, and in fact it keeps the register. Let’s see what it is …
ATTENTION: SPOILERS
As mentioned before, the scene is a continuation of the finale. Shuri ( Letitia Wright ) is still on the beach outside Nakia ‘s ( Lupita Nyong’o ) house. She has just burned her clothes, and she mourns her lost brother in front of her bonfire. At this point, Nakia returns to her with a 5/6 year old child: she had it from T’Challa even before the infamous snap of Thanos , but they kept it secret – and away from Wakanda – to shield him from external pressures. , being destined to become King. He inherited his father’s name, T’Challa . Surprised by this discovery, Shuribegins to bond with his grandson.
Ryan Coogler then completes the mourning process: T’Challa is gone, but continues to live in her son. Symbolically, this is also the legacy of Chadwick Boseman , who in turn lives on. It is an epilogue where the filmmaker finds his indie roots of him, using close-up shots and shoulder camera to communicate a sense of deep intimacy with the characters.
It is the closing of a circle, if we think about the narration of the film, but at the same time it casts a glimpse into the future. In the comics, T’Challa has a son with Ororo Monroe (aka Storm ) named Azari T’Challa , who inherits the powers of his parents and becomes the Black Panther himself . It is still early to make predictions, but it would certainly not be a surprise if even the little T’Challa of the Marvel Cinematic Universe followed in his father’s footsteps: who knows, maybe in a few years we will see him as the new Black Panther , even if in the immediate future it will be his turn. Shuri that task.
For the moment, the important thing is that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has found a satisfying closure, on an emotional and character level.
