Not since Intouchables (19,490,688 tickets in 2011) has a film been so successful at the French box office. Of course we are talking about Avatar:
The Waterway which in its eighth weekend set a new record in France.
The film was watched by 13,005,621 admissions, becoming the biggest American cinematic success in France since the release of the first Avatar in 2009 (15,340,969 admissions). It should be noted that if we compare the run between the two films, the sequel leads by 451,000 viewers at the same point.
In terms of receipts, Avatar: Running Water became the highest-grossing film, €131M, taking away the primacy from Avatar which in turn had taken away last year’s Titanic .
There are three films directed by James Cameron currently in the top 20 most watched films in France. In first place we find Titanic with 21,774,181 admissions.
Avatar 2 is expected to surpass the 13,226,772 admissions of Cinderella (1950) in the next few days, becoming the 16th most successful in the French box office.
