Thanks to the excellent receipts on Valentine’s Day, at the box office, Puss in Boots 2 – The last wish has exceeded the threshold of $400 million worldwide.
In international markets it grossed $241.4M and $160.1M at the North American box office, for a total of 401.5M.
It thus surpassed the international gross of Black Adam to become the eleventh best result of 2022, by a studio, internationally. Globally, however, it is in twelfth place.
The film, directed by Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado , recently opened in the UK where it grossed $13.8M in two weeks. The main markets are: Mexico ($23.9M), France ($20.3M), Germany ($16.2M), Brazil ($15.4M) and Australia ($14M).
It will open in Japan next month on March 17.
Universal and animation
Universal had five of the top six grossers by a Hollywood animation studio during the pandemic: Minions 2 ($942M), Sing 2 ($413M), Puss in Boots 2 , Too Bad ($252M) and The Croods : A New Era ($227M).
Currently, The Last Wish is DreamWorks Animation ‘s best title , ever, in 28 international territories: Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Lebanon, Kazakhstan, Turkey, Bolivia, Romania, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Venezuela, Estonia, Latvia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Nigeria, Uzbekistan, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Moldova, Albania, Macedonia and Tajikistan.
While it is DWA ‘s second title , ever, in Central America, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Paraguay and Sri Lanka.
This weekend, Puss in Boots 2: The Last Wish is estimated to overtake Fantastic Beasts: Dumbledore’s Secret, Sonic 2 and Uncharted , placing it at the ninth place at the worldwide box office, of the best grossers of 2022.
