Scream grossed $ 3.5M from around 3,000 theaters at the US box office, the third best result for a horror film during the pandemic, behind A Quiet Place 2 ($ 4.8M) and Halloween Kills . ($ 4.85M).
In a limited number of rooms nationwide, the Scream Opening Night Fan Event was held yesterday at 5:00 PM PST, 7:00 PM CST and 8:00 PM EST with a live Q&A attended by David Arquette, Bettinelli- Olpin & Gillett and executive producer and creator Kevin Williamson . It was also accompanied by a pre-recorded intro from the talent, and bonus content with the cast and behind-the-scenes footage was shown.
Glass had grossed $ 3.7M and finished its first 3 days in theaters with $ 40M, a figure the reboot could match over the 4-day weekend, although some analysts speculate a $ 20M weekend. In three days Scream could bring home more than $ 30M thus ousting Spider-Man: No Way Home from the top spot.
The percentage of reviews on Rotten Tomatoes is 76% positive, the public vote 90%. The film’s budget without P&A is $ 24M.
Over the course of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day weekend, the highest recorded opening from a horror film was Universal ‘s Mama , at $ 32.1M. The highest opening for a horror during the pandemic was in October 2021 with Halloween Kills ($ 49.4M) released day-and-date on Peacock .
Spider-Man: No Way Home grossed $ 2.1M from 4,012 theaters yesterday, ending week four with $ 677.95M. Jon Watts ‘ filmwill surpass Avengers: Infinity War ($ 678.8M) today to place fifth in the US box office’s highest grossing chart ever. By Monday it is expected to break the $ 700 mark, and surpass Black Panther ($ 700.4M).
