The late Carrie Fisher , who passed away in 2016, now has her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The ceremony, which took place yesterday on the occasion of Star Wars Day , was attended by Mark Hamill , face of Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars saga , who read to those present a tribute written in 2016, on the occasion of the death of his dear friend and colleague .
It’s really hard for me to find words that can do Carrie justice. Initially I thought about taking a notebook and writing down some thoughts, but then I found a message I had written shortly after her death. I thought it was as relevant today as it was then.
This is Hamill’s homage:
Carrie was one of a kind. She belonged to all of us whether we liked her or not. She was our princess, damn it! And the actress who played her merged into one magnificent woman, bravely independent, fiercely funny, determined and strong, but with a vulnerability that made you root for her and want her success and her happiness. She has played such an important role in my professional and personal life. Both would have been very empty without her.
Was it a bit difficult to manage? Was he demanding? No doubt. But everything would have been much duller and less interesting if she hadn’t been the friend that she was. I will never stop missing her, but I’m so grateful to have had her for as long as we’ve had. I am thankful for the laughter, wisdom, kindness, and even the spoiled-woman nonsense my beloved space twin has driven me crazy with over the years. So thank you, Carrie. I love you.The ceremony was obviously also attended by Billie Lourd , daughter of the actress, who decided to exclude her mother’s brother and sisters, specifically Todd Fisher and Joely and Tricia Leigh . In a statement, the three declared themselves shocked and saddened by this decision, this is Billie Lourd ‘s answer :
A few days after her death, they chose to publicly mourn and capitalize on my mother’s death by doing many interviews and selling books for a lot of money that had my mother’s and grandmother’s deaths as their subjects. I found out they had done this through the press. They never consulted me or considered how this would affect our relationship.
To be clear: there is no feud. We have no relationship. This was my conscious decision to cut off all contact with a lifestyle that I and my children do not want to be a part of.
