What’s on Netflix reports an interesting rumor, but to be taken with a grain of salt.
According to the site, Netflix is considering appointing Greta Gerwig , director of Little Women and the forthcoming Barbie , to direct the first two films of The Chronicles of Narnia . Netflix acquired the rights to the saga in 2018 , after signing an agreement with The CS Lewis Company to produce films and series based on Lewis’s novels.
Matthew Alrich , screenwriter of Coco and Lightyear , was hired years ago by Netflix as the “creative architect” of the saga, but nothing has been heard of the project since.
Netflix already has a relationship with Greta Gerwig, who is one of the protagonists of Noah Baumbach ‘s White Noise , her partner and regular collaborator, as well as co-writer of Barbie . Presented in competition in Venice, White Noise will arrive on Netflix on December 30th.
Gerwig is also the screenwriter of the live-action remake of Snow White , coming in 2024.
For now, there is no confirmation of his involvement in The Chronicles of Narnia , nor is anything known about what Netflix’s intentions are regarding the saga. To find out more we will have to wait for some official news.
