Here is the first trailer of Cip & Dale special agents  ( Chip ‘n’ Dale: Rescue Rangers ).

The hybrid film, part live action and part animation in computer graphics, directed by Akiva Schaffer (Neighbors of the third kind, Popstar Lives).

As we can see from the video, the film uses two types of 3D animation: one that recreates the look of the old TV series in 2D and the classic 3DCG. As for the setting, it seems to be in Who Framed Roger Rabbit? , that is an environment where human beings and animated characters interact.

It was leaked that Dan Gregor  and  Doug Mand had created a meta script, something self-referential and cool, and the trailer seems to confirm that.

The synopsis

Chip and Dale live between cartoons and humans in modern day Los Angeles, but their lives are very different now. It’s been decades since their hit TV series was canceled, and Chip (Mulaney) has capitulated to a life of suburban domesticity as an insurance salesman.

When a former castmate mysteriously disappears, Chip and Dale must mend their friendship and take on their role as Rescue Rangers detective once again to save their friend’s life.

The tv series

Created in 1943, Cip and Dale first appeared in the short film ‘ Private Pluto ‘. In the late 1980s  Michael Eisner  proposed the duo for a new animated series initially titled  Metro Mice , later re-titled  Chip ‘n Dale and the Rescue Rangers .

Their looks and basic personality traits have been retained, but unlike the shorts, they are two big talkers in the series.

The cast

The vocal cast includes: John Mulaney (Chip), Andy Samberg (Dale / Dale) and KiKi Layne . Rounding out the cast: Will Arnett (Arrested Development); Eric Bana (Dirty John); Flula Borg (Pitch Perfect 2); Dennis Haysbert (24); Keegan-Michael Key (Schmigadoon!); Tress MacNeille (The Simpsons); Tim Robinson (I Think You Should Leave); Seth Rogen (Pam and Tommy); JK Simmons (Being the Ricardos); Chris Parnell (Saturday Night Live).

The film is produced by Todd Lieberman (Wonder) and David Hoberman (Beauty and the Beast), with Alexander Young (Extinction) and Tom Peitzman serving as executive producers.

The film will debut May 20 exclusively on Disney + .
