Citadel , a new series produced by AGBO of the Russo Brothers (the directors of Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame ) and showrunner David Weil. hit Prime Video on April 28 .
It will debut on the platform with the first two episodes, followed by a new episode a week, every Friday, until May 26th. In the cast we find Richard Madden, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Stanley Tucci and Lesley Manville , protagonists of a particularly ambitious story, the first chapter of a shared universe dedicated to espionage that was presented to us last week during a press conference which it was done via Zoom.

What is Citadel about?
Eight years ago, Citadel fell. The independent international espionage agency – born with the aim of defending the safety of all people – was destroyed by the agents of Manticore, a powerful association that manipulates the world in the shadows. With the fall of Citadel, all memories of elite agents Mason Kane (Richard Madden) and Nadia Sinh (Priyanka Chopra Jonas) were erased, but they miraculously managed to save themselves. They have remained in hiding ever since, building a new life with new identities, both unaware of their pasts. Until the night Mason is tracked down by his former Citadel colleague, Bernard Orlick (Stanley Tucci), who desperately needs his help to stop the Manticore from establishing a new world order. The Russo Brothers have been particularly proud of this project, which extends worldwide. Citadel is, in fact, the debut of a global franchise and includes other productions that span the globe with interconnected stories. Every series in the Citadel universe is created, produced and filmed locally. Currently, two new adventures set in Italy and India are already in production, starring Matilda De Angelis, Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu respectively .

It seemed like such a new idea from a narrative point of view, an incredible challenge. Telling a story that can intertwine on a global scale. With a main series and others developing regionally. Written, produced and directed by talent from around the world.

The coolest thing about this shared spy universe is that we’re building it with partners all over the world. We have already announced a series set in India, and one set in Italy. And we can work with these incredible writers, directors, actors, producers, really from all over the world, and build the whole story together.
It’s becoming a tapestry told in different languages, across different cultures. We are not only seeing history from the Western point of view. We’re serious about doing something original, holding hands and building all of this with our fellow creators and producers. It’s quite extraordinary as a thing.
The Russo Brothers then focused on the cast:
The cast of the series is just amazing. We love that both Richard and Priyanka get to play multiple versions of themselves. And this idea that their memories have been erased allows them to create new characters who then have to rediscover who they really are.
The theme of duality has quite fascinated the protagonist Richard Madden :
What was really fun about all of this was getting to play these two very, very different characters, but they both live in the same body. And they are both the same man but in very different ways. One of them has many scars from the past, many traumas. The other, on the other hand, does not carry this weight.
Priyanka Chopra Jonas then focused on the aura of mystery that surrounds the series, where nothing is as it seems:
This series has so many layers and so much complexity, right away we talked about duality for each character. What you see is not necessarily the truth.
You won’t have to believe what you’ll be shown and this is completely insane from a conceptual point of view. And it’s also very exciting to be able to share it with the world because it took so long to make.
