The Deadline now confirms that six of the original stars have agreed to return, even though the negotiations have not yet concluded. Let’s talk about Joe Mantegna, Kirsten Vangsness, Adam Rodriguez, AJ Cook, Aisha Tyler and the same Joe Mantegna, Kirsten Vangsness, Adam Rodriguez, AJ Cook, Aisha Tyler, Paget Brewster.

The closing of the talks with the six actors has been sidelined by ABC Signature, to give priority to the contract with showrunner Erica Messer . Here too, the negotiations are nearing completion but still ongoing. Meanwhile, Paramount + and the studios that produce the series, ABC Signature and CBS Studios, would have reached an agreement on a ten-episode season.

The six stars represent the bulk of the team from season 15, the last to be produced so far. Missing Matthew Gray Gubler , interpreter of Spencer Reid for fifteen seasons, who has said he does not want to return, and Daniel Henney , busy with The Wheel of Time , who may instead appear as a guest star.

The contracts being defined would be for several seasons and subject to the availability of the actors. They will not therefore be exclusive: the actors will be able to continue working on other major projects as well, if they do not interfere with the filming of Criminal Minds .

The long road to revival

Announced with great fanfare during the Paramount + unveiling last February, the Criminal Minds revival seemed, as mentioned, on the verge of not materializing. Nicole Clemens , President of Paramount + Original Scripted Series, explained however that the changes at the top of the platform last summer helped slow its progress, and that the project is “alive and well”.
