Dangerous Liaisons , a new series inspired by the 18th-century novel of the same name, arriving November 6 on LIONSGATE + (formerly known as STARZPLAY).
It has already been renewed for a second season, which should begin shooting in early 2023. As stated by executive producer Colin Callender :
We greatly appreciate the support of Starz and Lionsgate. We are seriously thrilled to share Harriet Warner’s brilliant vision for season two, which will see our world expand and the relationships between our characters deepen in thrilling and dangerous new ways.
The series began as a prequel to Laclos’ classic novel and centers on the two iconic protagonists, the Marquise de Merteuil and the Viscount de Valmont, and on the early years of their relationship, when they were passionate young lovers in Paris on the eve of the revolution. Driven by a thirst for revenge for the wrongs suffered in the past, we see them ascend from the slums of Paris up the ranks of the French aristocracy, manipulating not only the nobility, but each other, for the sole purpose to survive.
The cast
Alice Englert and Nicholas Denton play the two lovers: Camille, who is welcomed by the previous Marchesa de Merteuil (played by Lesley Manville) and Valmont, who will stop at nothing to regain the title that had been taken from him.
With them Kosar Ali , who plays Victoire, Camille’s best friend and accomplice, and Carice Van Houten , ( Game of Thrones ) who plays Jacqueline de Montrachet, a pious noblewoman with a mysterious bond with Camille.
In the cast we also find Hilton Pelser in the role of Gabriel Carrè, Fisayo Akinade in the role of Chevalier de Saint-Jacques, Michael McElhattonas Jean de Merteuil, Nathanael Saleh as Azolan, Colette Dalal Tchantcho as Ondine de Valmont, Hakeem Kae-Kazim as Majordome and Tom Wlaschiha as Henri de Montrachet.
The series is produced for STARZ by Playground and Flame Ventures in association with Lionsgate Television. Written and created by Harriet Warner , who also participates as showrunner and executive producer. In addition to Warner, Colin Callendar ( Playground ), Tony Krantz ( Flame Ventures ), Scott Huff, Bethan Jones and Christopher Hampton are also executive producers. Barney Reisz is producer.
