The series was viewed by an average of 8 million weekly viewers, across all Showtime platforms, making it the most viewed series in cable history.

It was since the days of Homeland that these numbers have not been seen for a season finale. “ Sins of the Father ” attracted 3 million total viewers on Sunday alone, the best result of the last eight years for a final episode. It also set a new record for Showtime: it was seen by 2 million viewers on streaming and on-demand platforms on Sunday.

Gary Levine, President of Entertainment, Showtime Networks Inc. said:

“We are thrilled with the overwhelming response from the millions of Dexter: New Blood fans over the past 10 weeks. Whether they loved the ending or couldn’t bear to see it finish, we really appreciate their passion. Our deepest thanks to Michael, Clyde, Scott and Marcos for giving a deeply powerful conclusion to our beloved and extraordinary series ”.

Written by Clyde Phillips , the series is set 10 years after Dexter’s disappearance in the eye of Hurricane Laura. In Dexter: New Blood we find him living under a false name in the fictional town of Iron Lake, New York. Dexter has embraced his new life, but in the wake of unexpected events in this close-knit community, his Dark Passenger inevitably beckons.
