Not all donuts succeed with the hole or, in this case, not all reboots. HBO Max has in fact chosen to cancel Head of the Class , the reboot of the classic 80s sit-com Distinguishing marks: genius , after just one season. The entire season, consisting of ten episodes, was released on November 4th on the WarnerMedia platform.
HBO Max released the following release to Deadline :
We will not continue with a second season of Particular Marks: Genius. We are grateful to have partnered with Bill [Lawrence, executive producer], [showrunners] Amy [Pocha] and Seth [Cohen] to recreate such an iconic series, and thank them and the fantastic cast for their hard work and I commit.
The cast
The series stars Isabella Gomez, Jorge Diaz, Jolie Hoang Rappaport, Gavin Lewis, Dior Goodjohn, Brandon Severs, Adrian Matthew Escalona, Katie Beth Hall and Christa Miller . Robin Givens reprized the role of Darlene from the original series. The series is produced by Doozer Productions, in association with Warner Bros. Television.
The original series
Created by Rich Eustis and Michael Elias , Distinguishing Marks: Genius ran for five seasons on ABC, from 1986 to 1991. It was set in a fictional high school in Manhattan, Millard Fillmore High School. Howard Hesseman played Charlie Moore, a teacher struggling with a group of highly ambitious and competitive students whom he tried to get them to focus less on grades and more on living their lives.
