The first key visual of the Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero movie was revealed , which will open in Japan on April 22nd .

In the image, in addition to Piccolo, Goku, Gohan, Pan and Vegeta, the new protagonists of the film also appear: Gamma 1 ( Hiroshi Kamiya ), Gamma 2 ( Mamoru Miyano ), Dr Hedo ( Miyu Irino ), Magenta ( Volcano Ōta ) and Carmine ( Ryota Takeuchi ).

Here instead we can see the image of its entirety, where Bulma, # 18, Krillin and Goten and Trunks appear while attempting the merger. (note a misplaced finger, ed.)

The retro-style car was designed by master Akira Toriyama . As for the small dome that we see on the roof, it serves to avoid crushing the pompadour of the driver Carmine (next to Piccolo in the poster).

The film is set after the events of Dragon Ball Super: Broly  but before the 28th Tenkaichi Tournament, so Goten and Trunks have grown quite a bit, executive producer Akyo Iyoku of Shueisha pointed out . Explaining that we had never seen Teen Trunks before.

Iyoku confirms that in the film the boys will merge, but what will be the result we will see in the film?

New shot

Director Tetsuro Kodama presented a new scene, without sound, in which Doctor Hedo throws a hand grenade inside a prison.

Kodama explained that they have employed a new approach to shadow making, where they are either blurry or have a more gradual tinge, thus providing a softer feel.

The second clip, where Piccolo is attacked by Gamma 2, serves instead to show how compared to the previous works, there is more animation of the characters. In particular they emphasized the movement of Piccolo’s cloak after the explosion; the way Gamma 2 handles his gun; and the folds of his costume when he poses.

In the third clip, Gohan appears attacking Gamma 2 and then Gamma 1. The scene takes place under pouring rain. The scene ends with Goku’s son transforming into Super Saiyan.

Iyoku revealed that in the original Toriyama script , it wasn’t raining in this scene. But reading it he thought that adding rain wouldn’t make it more exciting and would change the atmosphere.

“Gamma 1 and Gamma 2 are androids so they’re incredibly fast and can do some amazing moves. The rain moves to match their movements, as we saw earlier where it got faster while they were running. In the rain, the audience can really get a sense of how fantastic the movement of the characters is. ”

Finally he paid attention to the folding umbrella, which Carmine opens, revealing how the design of the handle is inspired by the Red Ribbon logo:

Toei Animation producer Norihiro Hayashida added that there is a lot of background detail with a lot of moving parts. Plus there are a lot of camera moves, unlike what we’ve seen so far in the franchise:

“I think it brought a new sense of speed and power … We wanted the movement to feel real.”

At the end of the panel, the director added that Piccolo and Gohan will have an important role.

But how did they decide the return of the Red Ribbon, as an enemy? First, Iyoku explained , they wanted the battle to take place on Earth and no longer on an intergalactic scale.

At that point they remembered that this enemy once existed and thought about how it would lead to a battle against an army, and not a single opponent. He added:

“And everyone in the army has their motives, and their way of thinking, like Magenta and Carmine. So we thought that since not everyone thinks the same, we would be able to paint an interesting portrait of the antagonist, and for that we finally decided to use the Red Ribbon army. ”

Hayashida added that there are complicated links between the members:

“As an army, they naturally work together as a unit. But there are several occasions where it doesn’t necessarily work ”.

Finally, the presale of tickets was announced in Japan:
