End of Watch , the thriller starringJake GyllenhaalandMichael Peñadirected by David Ayer , will become a Fox series.

The network ordered the series starting from the script, without going through the pilot.

The screenplay is the work of Ayer andDavid Matthews(the AmazonLoro). The series will follow the daily lives of two LAPD officers who are partners at work and friends in life, and will show what happens when they encounter criminal forces greater than themselves.

Fox Entertainment has been implementing a new strategy since 2020, to approve the series without going through the traditional pilot episode phase. In the case of End of Watch , the network asked for the pilot’s script, a back-up script and a format, and made a decision from these.

Ayer will executive produce alongside Chris Long and Darryll C. Scott via Cedar Park Studios. Executive producers also include Matthews, John Lesher , producer of the original film, Andrea Iervolino, Monika Bacardi and James Masciello .

End of Watch featured Gyllenhaal and Peña as Brian Taylor and Mike Zavala, the two protagonist agents (we’ll see if they change their name in the series). Next to them were Anna Kendrick, Natalie Martinez, America Ferrera, Frank Grillo, Cody Horn and David Harbor . The film, written and directed by Ayer, grossed $ 58 million from a budget of $ 10.

This is not Ayer’s first project to be transposed on TV: already Training Day , written by Ayer and directed by Antoine Fuqua , had become a series that lasted only one season, also due to the death of co-star Bill Paxton .
