The concept behind exception , the new Japanese animated series made exclusively for Netflix , asks a very simple question “What is human being?”.
As we will see, the answer is not so simple already from this first trailer in which a group of people created with a 3D printer ask themselves this question, when they are faced with a printing error.
The original exception soundtrack will be available from 12 October . Two tracks, Opening for exception and oxygen (from exception Soundtrack), will be premiered starting today.
Composer Ryuichi Sakamoto explained:
“I decided to join the series because I love science fiction and after reading the script I wanted to see this series.
Cloning and other genetic manipulation technologies are advancing in the modern era, but I believe what is being questioned is what is “life” and what is “humanity”. This work addresses the issue head on.
I wanted the main theme to be symphonic music, which has been a staple of science fiction films since Star Wars, and I tried to make the OST as a whole a single piece of music, not scene by scene, but in the as a whole, with a dark ambient vibe. That said, I’ve included some intense sounds in the battle scenes. I really liked the OST. ”.

The synopsis:
In the distant future, humanity is forced to leave Earth and migrate to another galaxy. An exploration team sets out in search of a planet to terraform it and the crew members are created with a biological 3D printer, but a system error occurs and one of them (Lewis) emerges deformed. When Lewis attacks his companions Nina, Mack, Patty and Oscar, he begins a countdown towards the end of the mission in the terrifying darkness of the spaceship.
The voice actors:
The Japanese cast consists of: Chikahiro Kobayashi (Lewis), Takahiro Sakurai (Mac), Yuko Kaida (Nina), Takanori Hoshino (Oscar) and Atsumi Tanezaki (Patty).
The staff:
The story is based on an idea by novelist and filmmaker Hirotaka Adachi also known as Otsuichi (Stare film, Goth, Calling You, Zoo), one of the creators with whom Netflix announced a collaboration in February 2020.
The character design is made by Yoshitaka Amano (Final Fantasy) while the direction is entrusted to Yūzō Satō . The soundtrack is the work of Ryuichi Sakamoto (The Last Emperor, The Wings of Honneamise, Appleseed). Adachi wrote the script.
