We know that social media can be a highly toxic environment, regardless of your age, gender, or anything else. For teenagers it is very important to have a presence on Facebook and Instagram , where appearances and physique matter more than anything. Well, a recent Facebook report suggests that Instagram in particular has a serious toxicity problem among the younger community, and they will need to do something to fix it.
According to information from The Wall Street Journal, Facebook carried out a series of studies that revealed the damage that Instagram is causing to many teenagers. But rather than trying to fix things, Mark Zuckerberg’s company preferred to focus on “positive benefits.”
Over the past three years, Facebook has been conducting various studies on the impact that Instagram is having on its users. The results show that 32% of adolescent girls who use the social network, and who have self-esteem problems, assure that entering Instagram only worsens the situation.
Similarly, the documents indicate that “comparisons on Instagram can change the way young women see and describe themselves”, this referring of course to the marked and defined bodies that can normally be seen on Instagram.
