Joe Turkel , a long-running character actor best known for his role as Lloyd, the ghost bartender from The Shining , is dead. The disappearance took place on June 27, but the news has only been spread now. Turkel was 94 years old.

Born in Brooklyn in 1927, at the age of 17 Turkel enlisted in the merchant navy and then joined the army, fighting in World War II. In 1947 he moved to Los Angeles to work as an actor.

He also collaborated with Stanley Kubrick on Armed Robbery and Paths of Glory , before playing the disturbing Lloyd in the horror masterpiece The Shining . In the 1980s he also took part in Ridley Scott ‘s Blade Runner , in which he played Eldon Tyrell, the creator of the replicants.
