Fast X , the tenth and, theoretically, penultimate installment in the Fast & Furious saga.
It could be not only the most expensive in the saga, but the fourth most expensive film in cinema history. Sources ofThe Wrapcite a budget of 340 million dollars, a figure that would also be due to the problems encountered by the production, namelythe departure of director Justin Lin ,his replacement by Louis Leterrier , andthe protests of the inhabitants of the Angelino Heights neighborhood, in Los Angeles, furious (pass the term…) because the saga had turned their streets into tracks for clandestine car races. But the site also mentions a general increase in the salaries of the stars, not just Vin Diesel , and the costs caused by inflation and the pandemic (the anti-Covid safety measures are still in place).
Result: a budget 140 million dollars higher than that of Fast & Furious 9 , which cost 200 million. Not counting inflation, Fast X would be fourth after Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides ($379 million), Avengers: Age of Ultron ($365 million) and Avengers: Endgame ($356 million) on the list of most expensive films of all times. Fast & Furious 7 and 8 , costing 250 million, are tied for 17th place (along with No Time to Die, Thor: Love and Thunder, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince ).
Fast & Furious 9 failed to break through the billion dollar ceiling like the previous two chapters, mainly due to the pandemic. The next one will have to return to the glories (again, pass the term) of the past, because to break even with a budget like this Fast X will have to make at least 700 million. Not to mention marketing costs.
