We already knew, thanks to director Louis Leterrier , that Fast X would somehow include Brian O’Conner , the character played by the late Paul Walker .
Now comes some kind of confirmation from star and producer Vin Diesel : yes, the Fast & Furious franchise will say goodbye to Brian by the end, either in the next film or in the eleventh and final film.
Speaking to Total Film, who dedicated the cover and a lengthy article to the film , Diesel said:
At that moment in 2013, as the world was grappling with loss, the studio made a very brave and right decision to keep Brian O’Conner alive. I’ll tell you this without spoiling anything: I couldn’t imagine this saga ending without really saying goodbye to Brian O’Conner.
During the making of Fast & Furious 7 , Paul Walker’s brothers, Caleb and Cody , helped out by acting as stunt doubles for their brother in scenes he failed to shoot before he died (mid-shoot). Their resemblance to Paul, mixed with the CGI, made for pretty good results. It remains to be seen whether the same ploy will be used again this time. Certainly, in the eight years that separate us from Fast & Furious 7 , deepfake technology has made great strides, and it will be much easier to recreate the figure of Paul Walker digitally. It is to be hoped, however, that the thing is done with good taste.
