First trailer for ‘Nightmare Alley’, Guillermo del Toro’s new film with Bradley Cooper and Willem Dafoe

The first trailer for ‘Nightmare Alley’ is here, the ‘thriller noir’ with which Guillermo del Toro returns to the big screen this year.

After a couple of years of reports and leaks, it was finally time to find out about Guillermo del Toro’s next project . The Mexican director kept his promise and shared the first trailer for Nightmare Alley , a feature film that has caused a lot of expectation not only because of the renowned filmmaker’s previous history, but also because it will be a production aimed at an adult audience. To the above we must also add a first-rate cast.

Nightmare Alley will be a noir thriller based on the novel by William Lindsay Gresham, published in 1946. Curiously, this is the second time that someone has tried to adapt the written work, since in 1947 there was a feature film directed by Edmund Goulding and starring Tyrone Power and Joan Blondell. The story follows the rise and fall of Stanton Carlisle , a millionaire con artist. However, his story takes a turn when he meets psychiatrist Lilith Ritter.

“An ambitious young man with a talent for manipulating people with a few well-chosen words joins a psychiatrist who is even more dangerous than he is,” the short synopsis mentions. It is important to mention that, despite the name, Nightmare Alley is not a horror or fantasy film , so it will distance itself from the recent productions of the Guadalajara-born.

“I happened to Crimson Peak [ Crimson Peak ], where people entaba expecting a horror movie. This [ Nightmare Alley ] has no supernatural element . It is based entirely in a world of reality. There is nothing fantastic. It ‘s a movie very different from the usual, but yes, the title and my name would create that impression “, expressed Guillermo del Toro in an interview with Vanity Fair .

The great cast of Nightmare Alley

As mentioned above, Nightmare Alley boasts a more than promising cast : Bradley Cooper (Stanton Carlisle), Willem Dafoe (Clem Hoately), Cate Blanchett (Lilith Ritter), Toni Collette (Zeena Krumbein), Richard Jenkins (Ezra Grindle), Ron Perlman (Bruno), Rooney Mara (Molly) and David Strathain (Pete Krumbein). In the direction of photography we find Dan Laustsen, while Luis Sequeira is in charge of costume design and Dennis Berardi of visual effects.

If there are no unexpected obstacles in the way, Nightmare Alley will be released in theaters on December 2, 2021 .
