Several of the 12,000 fired Google employees were surprised by this separation. They are telling it through TikTok.
A few days ago, Google made a massive layoff of 12,000 employees from its global payroll and many of those affected have still not been able to assimilate this sudden cut.
That is why, from TikTok , many of them have expressed their feelings about it, from how they found out, to what emotion this event caused.

“I know right now when I’m backed into a corner is when amazing things get built,” Rebekah Moran, a pregnant Google employee who worked at the company for 9 years , said on a TikTok . “I have a 2-year-old son and I have a little girl that I am going to meet soon. This is the time to really show up and demonstrate what it means to flourish during uncertainty.”
“[I called] my boss and we cried on the phone,” said another.
“I didn’t find out until around noon that day when I checked my personal email and saw that my manager had messaged me on LinkedIn,” @emilycahillhealt noted.
“I want to take advantage of this time to work on myself. There are so many things I want to learn and do”, said @juliepramirez.
“I’m going to log in on my normal business day and I can’t log into my laptop to access my email,” @eatloveshop explained.
“I’m going to take some time to think about whether this is an opportunity to dedicate myself full time to my business,” says @poupcards.
Cuts in technology
The person in charge of breaking the news was Sundar Pichai, who wrote a lengthy memo to the entire payroll.
“Over the past two years we have seen periods of dramatic growth. To keep up and increase this growth, we contracted for a different economic reality than the one we live in today,” Pichai apologized.
“We have done a rigorous review across all product and feature areas to ensure our people and roles are aligned with our highest priorities as a company. The roles we are removing reflect the outcome of this review. They affect all of Alphabet, product areas, functions, tiers and regions,” she stated.
Laid-off “Googlers” in the United States will have a minimum of 60 days of salary, severance payments that start at a payment for 16 weeks of work, 2022 bonuses, health benefits, help to find a job and immigration consulting.
