Germany could ban Telegram nationwide if the platform continues to break the law, according to Interior Minister Nancy Faeser.
Telegram is the platform popular with far-right groups and people who oppose pandemic restrictions in Germany , but it could be blocked in the European country.
According to the German Interior Minister, Nancy Faeser, if the messaging platform continues to violate the law , it could be closed. “We cannot rule this out,” he told the weekly Die Zeit. “A closure would be serious and clearly a last resort. All other options must be exhausted first.”
Telegram under the German magnifying glass
Feaser explains that talks around the case are continuing to detail the technical and legal procedure for the closure of Telegram in Germany.
One of the main reasons Germany plans to block Telegram is because it has become a very popular platform among far-right hate groups .
In addition, many demonstrations against the pandemic measures have been organized by ultra- conservative extremists through Telegram.
