GLADIATOR 2: FIRST LOOK AT THE MOROCCO SET

In Morocco construction is underway on the sets of Gladiator 2 , the Paramount film   directed by  Ridley Scott , the sequel to  Gladiator .

Principal photography begins this month, so here’s a first video showing the reconstruction of Ancient Rome.

The film will be released in U.S. theaters by Paramount on November 22, 2024 .

Lucio succeeds Massimo

The protagonist this time will be Lucio ( Paul Mescal ), the now adult son of Lucilla ( Connie Nielsen ), given that the story takes place years after the end of the first film.

Lucius was also the nephew of Commodus ( Joaquin Phoenix ), the son of Emperor Marcus Aurelius, who assassinated his father to take over the throne. Commodus died at the hands of Maximus ( Russell Crowe ) in the Colosseum, before dying and reuniting with his slain wife and son in the afterlife.

Maximus had thus saved Lucio and his mother, leaving a strong impression on the young man.

The cast

In addition to Mescal and Nielsen , Denzel Washington, Pedro Pascal and Joseph Quinn star as Emperor Caracalla.

Rounding out the cast: May Calamawy ,  Lior Raz, Peter Mensah  and  Matt Lucas . Derek Jacobi will reprise his role as Gracchus.

Fred Hechinger (The White Lotus) is in talks to play Emperor   Publius Septimius Geta , replacing Barry Keoghan .

Ridley Scott  will return to direct and produce with  Michael Pruss, Doug Wick  and  Lucy Fisher . David Scarpa  ( The Man in the High Castle, All the Money in the World ) wrote the final draft of the screenplay. Also returning from the original film are Oscar-winning costume designer  Janty Yates  and Oscar-nominated production designer  Arthur Max . However,  Russell Crowe will not return .

Confirmed the returns of costume designer  Janty Yates  and production designer  Arthur Max . Scott  is producing the film with  Michael Pruss  president of  Scott Free , and  Doug Wick  &  Lucy Fisher  for Red Wagon Entertainment.

The original film was a co-production  of Universal  and  DreamWorks , in which case  DreamWorks  is not involved.
