Google Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro with new Google Tensor chip revealed

Google has officially revealed its next flagship smartphones– Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. The smartphones flaunt a new design with a camera bar at the back, and it is the first time that Google is using its chip– Google Tensor– in a Pixel phone. Both smartphones will be available later this year. While the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro bets big on cameras and user experience, the real deal is that Google has finally launched its chipset to power its phones. Google claims that the new Google Tensor chipset will provide the “most innovative AI and machine learning (ML) to our Pixel users.”

The highlight of Tensor is that it can process Google’s most powerful AI and ML models directly on Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, said Google. “You’ll see a transformed experience for the camera Camera, speech recognition, and many other Pixel 6 features,” it added.

While Google hasn’t revealed the entire hardware specifications of the phones, it said that the Pixel 6 Pro would come with three cameras that will have a telephoto lens with a 4x optical zoom. On the other hand, the Pixel 6 will skip the telephoto sensor.

As for the design, the front of the phones look very similar and will come with a centrally located punch-hole display. There will be a rectangular protruding camera bar on the top part running across the entire width of the phone at the back. The only way to differentiate between the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro is that the Pro version will have more space above the camera bar. Both the phones will come in three color options. The Pixel 6 Pro comes in a light polished aluminum frame, while the Pixel 6 has a matte aluminum finish. On the front, there’s no notch on display, but the bezels appear pretty thick.

Powered by the Android 12 operating system, the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will flaunt a ‘Material You’ interface. If you are already bored with Dark Mode, then Material You is Google’s new design template. The UI will select and blend colors as you want to make every device look unique with the new Material You design language. A Google Tensor chipset powers the phones, and there’s support for 5G. With the new chipset, Google claims that the Pixel 6 series phones will be able to click better photos and is more secure with Titan M2.

“Tensor enables us to make the Google phones we’ve always envisioned — phones that keep getting better while tapping the most powerful parts of Google, all in a highly personalized experience. And with Tensor’s new security core and Titan M2, Pixel 6 will have the most layers of hardware security in any phone,” said Google in its official blog post.
