HBO Max gets a redesign before being merged with Discovery+

HBO Max is now more intuitive and has more features for the user. How long will this version last?

HBO Max has been in the eye of the storm in recent days after the uncertain landscape in which it was involved after the merger of WarnerMedia and Discovery. For this reason, a redesign in its app that will make life easier for users went unnoticed.

Soon, according to the company’s roadmap, HBO Max will merge with Discovery + , but before that, we will be able to enjoy a more intuitive and stylish app.

HBO Max is getting improvements to its desktop, Android, and iOS app.

First, it’s expanding its shuffle button to all platforms.

Second, the app is adding a section for all the content that we have previously downloaded, in order to facilitate its search.

On the other hand, it is adding support for split screen and Shareplay for Apple devices in the United States.

i needed to improve

In its rush to launch HBO Max, WarnerMedia built the original app on the same foundation as its old Go and Now apps. Due to this, many errors became common, especially the slowness in some actions.

Unfortunately, the redesign may not last long. The launch of the merged app between HBO Max and Discovery + will be launched in early 2023 and will have Latin America as one of its first test locations. It is not known for sure how it will be and if one of the two apps will be chosen as the main one, but there is no doubt that this redesign will not come to stay.

The merger is the latest of several major media consolidation moves in recent years. Amazon sealed its $8.45 billion purchase of MGM, Disney spent $71.3 billion to acquire most of 21st Century Fox a few years ago, while Microsoft agreed to a $68.7 billion deal to buy Activision Blizzard , which is expected to close in June 2023.
