Deadline confirms Discussing Film ‘s previous scoop : the Hellboy reboot will be titled Hellboy:
The Crooked Man , and filming will begin next month in Bulgaria. Negotiations with the cast are at an advanced stage, but for the moment we do not know which actors have been considered.
Millennium Media presented the film at the European Film Market in Berlin, also revealing the first details. Mike Mignola , creator of the character, will co-write the screenplay with Christopher Golden , author of three official Hellboy novels and a 2019 film rewrite, uncredited. The goal is “to expand the world of Hellboy through one of the most beloved issues of the comic” . The story will actually be inspired by the miniseries The Crooked Man : the hero will find himself stranded in the Appalachian Mountains with a recruit from the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense, and will discover a small community persecuted by witches. The witches are led by a local demon – the eponymous Crooked Man – who holds a link to Hellboy ‘s past .
Directed by Bryan Taylor , known for making the diptych of Crank with partner Mark Neveldine . It won’t be his first experience with a comic book adaptation, as the pair wrote Jonah Hex and directed Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance . In Bulgaria, Millennium has just filmed MJ Bassett ‘s new Red Sonja , starring Matilda Lutz .

The Crooked Man departs from the previous Hellboy films in that Mike Mignola will finally lead an authentic version of his stories and characters in cinematic form. This will be the first in a series of films that will engage audiences in new and familiar ways. Brian Taylor is an expert in this field, and I could not have thought of a better person to bring this story to life and show audiences a different and original Hellboy movie saga.
Hellboy: The Crooked Man
The Crooked Man is a 2011 three-part miniseries: set in 1956, it sees Hellboy meet a man called Tom in the mountains of West Virginia. Tom has sold his soul to a demon known as Crooked Man (“deformed man”, but also “corrupted”), and the hero will embark on a journey with him into the dark heart of Appalachia to see if said soul can be saved .
We don’t know if all these details will be kept in the adaptation. We will keep you posted.
