Highfire , the series based on the novel by Eoin Colfer which will see Nicolas Cage in the role of a disillusioned and vodka-loving dragon, has moved from Amazon to Paramount +.
The series will be the first major television project for Nicolas Cage, who was supposed to playJoe Exotic(the infamous Tiger King ) in an Amazon series, before it was shelved.
Colfer’s novel will be adapted by Davey Holmes ( Shameless ), who will also executive produce alongside Cage himself and Andrew Mittman for 1.21 Media. Highfire ‘s plot is somewhat bizarre:
In a world where dragons once ruled the Earth, the most powerful of them all, Lord Highfire, now lives a life as a recluse in a cabin in the swamps of Honey Island. Named after Vern, the dragon spends his days hiding among alligators, watching cable TV and drinking obscene amounts of vodka. Vern is willing to do anything, even resort to violence, to protect his privacy. But he soon finds himself caught up in the trouble of Squib, a teenager who smuggles alcohol for the local mala. The need to work together to survive will lead to both of them discovering an unlikely friendship.
Nicolas Cage will voice the protagonist, who will most likely be created in CGI. It remains to be seen if he will do anything more, that is, if he will play “Vern” in motion capture.
