Let’s start with the trailer for the series:

The plot of House of the Dragon

Based on the novel “Fire and Blood” by George RR Martin, among the executive producers, the series is set 200 years before the events mentioned in the parent series. The series focuses on an infamous event in the history of Westeros, the so-called “Dance of the Dragons”, the battle for the succession to the Iron Throne:

When King Viserys I (Paddy Considine) attempts to name his young daughter, Princess Rhaenyra (Milly Alcock as a young child, Emma D’Arcy as an adult) his heir, he unleashes dissent at court and gives rise to a bloody civil war: the traditionalists they are not ready to see a woman ascend the Iron Throne, preferring the king’s younger brother, Prince Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith), an unparalleled but impulsive and unreliable warrior.

The protagonists of House of the Dragon

In the cast of House of the Dragon we find:

Paddy Considine as King Viserys Targaryen , raw chosen by the lords of Westeros to succeed the Old King, Jaehaerys Targaryen, at the Grand Council of Harrenhal. A warm, kind and respectable man, Viserys only wishes to carry on his grandfather’s legacy. But good men are not necessarily great kings.

Matt Smith as Prince Daemon Targaryen , younger brother of King Viserys and heir to the throne. Daemon, peerless warrior and dragon rider, possesses the true blood of the dragon. But it is said that every time a Targaryen is born, the gods throw a coin in the air …

Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower , the daughter of Otto Hightower, the Hand of the King, and the most attractive woman of the Seven Kingdoms. She grew up in the Red Keep, close to the king and his closest circle; she possesses both courteous grace and keen political acumen. In the first five episodes the character is played by Emily Carey .

Emma D’Arcy as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen , the king’s eldest daughter, is of pure Valyrian blood and is capable of riding dragons. Many would say that Rhaenyra was born with everything… but she was not born a man. In the first five episodes the character is played by Milly Alcock .

Steve Toussaint as Lord Corlys Velaryon , “The Sea Serpent”. Lord of House Velaryon, a Valyrian bloodline as old as House Targaryen.

Eve Best as Princess Rhaenys Targaryen , rides dragons and is the wife of Lord Corlys Velaryon. “The Queen Who Never Was” was moved to the Grand Council because her kingdom preferred her cousin, Viserys, simply to be male.

Fabien Frankel in the role of Ser Criston Cole , of Dornish origin. Cole does not aspire to any particular title; all he possesses is his honor of him and his supernatural skill with the sword.

Sonoya Mizuno as Mysaria She arrived in Westeros with nothing and became the most trusted – but also the most unlikely – ally of Prince Daemon Targaryen, the heir to the throne.

Rhys Ifans as Otto Hightower , the King’s Hand. He serves both his king and kingdom loyally and faithfully. According to him, the biggest threat to the kingdom is the king’s brother, Daemon.
