SISMATE will have a new national test on May 31. Find out if your cell phone will be compatible with the message.
On May 31, cell phones nationwide will witness a new test of the Emergency Early Warning Messaging System ( SISMATE ), which will work to alert of emergencies in Peru.
The first test of the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) on May 6 summoned more than 22 million people , who heard and felt their mobile phones vibrating and with a sound that scared more than one clueless .
The alert that is propagated is aimed at warning of the occurrence of a danger of tsunami, flood, landslide, landslide and other disasters that occur in the various regions of the country.
These messages were sent to users of the four mobile phone operators with 2G, 3G and 4G coverage, using Cell Broadcast technology , an adjustment for which many teams did not receive the alert.
Carlos Aguirre Zurita, general director of Communications Programs and Projects of the MTC, indicated that Movistar, Claro, Entel and Bitel have guides on their web pages to install and fix the Cell Broadcast on cell phones, so that they can receive future messages from alert.
How to know if my cell phone has the Cell Broadcast?
To confirm if the mobile device has this technology, users can check if the IMEI number printed on the box matches the one displayed on the device. To do this, you just have to dial *#06# on your mobile as if you were starting a call.
The MTC enabled a web platform to search for the homologation certificate of cellular equipment in the country by brand or model, a necessary point for the operation of the system.
To find the cell phone model, you need to enter “Settings” on the mobile and then click on the “About this phone” option. That is the code that you must place in the “Model” field in the MTC search engine.
Some teams can access to know if they maintain this technology from the same configurations. For example, Samsung points out that it is necessary to enter the Messages application> 3 points on the right side> Settings> More settings> search for Broadcast and verify if it is enabled.
Huawei points out that cell phones must have updated software, mainly in its EMUI customization layer.
Lenovo (Motorola’s parent company) reports that you can enable Cell Broadcast with the following steps:
- Tap Messaging on the home screen
- Tap the icon in the top right
- Push Cell Broadcast function
- A warning will appear: “No Cell Broadcast Information.” Tap the icon in the top right
- Tap Settings (Cell broadcast settings may be different for different SIM cards)
- Touch Turn on notifications to enable emergency alert broadcasts or make other emergency warning settings
- Tap Show ETWS test streams to enable test streams for SISMATE
Even if the user is chatting, on a call, or browsing the internet, the alert will interrupt that activity so it doesn’t go unnoticed. The message will also be displayed if the cell phone is in silent mode.
Of course, the alert will not be displayed if the equipment is in Airplane Mode , since it does not allow the radio signals from the cellular base stations to be received.
