After two years of existence, Instagram closes its ‘Threads’ service in December 2021.
Instagram remains one of the most experimental places in Meta, and some tools have managed to evolve at a good pace, while others have fallen into disuse. After two years of betting on a service to communicate with your closest friends, Instagram has decided to close the “Threads” service at the end of this 2021.
A TechCrunch report indicates that Threads users will receive a notification from this November 23 , warning of the definitive closure of the service that, once, was proposed as the “replacement of Direct”.
“We are now focusing our efforts on improving the way you connect with close friends on Instagram and deprecating the Threads app , “ an Instagram spokesperson confirmed to TechCrunch.
Instagram Threads: a little used tool
This application, offered separately from Instagram, allowed us to get in direct contact with friends and instantly send photos and status of our activities to a small circle of people.
After its announcement in 2019 , the application sought to position itself as the most private resource among users, but a rethinking in 2020 meant that the app today can be used by any contact on the platform. Threads currently ranks 214 in the App Store’s “Photo & Video” category, and is used by 13.7 million people on iOS and Android, according to Sensor Tower.
“We are bringing the unique and fun features we had in Threads to the main Instagram app, and we continue to create ways that people can better connect with their close friends on Instagram,” they added from Instagram.
