Eternals is estimated to have grossed $ 90.7M in 46 international territories last weekend.
Resulting in global grosses of $ 161.7M. This is the second-best global opening for a Hollywood movie in 2021, after Fast & Furious 9 ($ 163M, $ 136M from China). We remind you that Chloé Zhao’s film will not be distributed in China.
This is the best overall result for a new IP, with global grosses exceeding Shang-Chi ($ 128M) by 26% , and Black Widow ($ 150M) by 8% . Of that $ 161.7M, $ 13.6M comes from Imax screens, while in the US Eternals grossed 403 IMAX, $ 7.6M in theaters.
Here’s the breakdown: South Korea ($ 14.4M), UK ($ 7.1M), France ($ 6.7M and 710,830 admissions from 579 theaters, best first weekend for a Marvel movie), Mexico ($ 5.7M), Australia ($ 5.0M) , Italy ($ 4.6M), Germany ($ 4.3M), Brazil ($ 4.2M), Taiwan ($ 3.8M), Japan ($ 3.7M), Hong Kong ($ 3.4M) and Spain ($ 3.0M).
International Box Office
No Time To Die surpassed $ 500M at the international box office, thanks to this weekend’s $ 33M in 73 territories, global takings jumped to $ 667.1M. In first place we find UK ($ 122.1M), Germany ($ 67.7M), China ($ 49.3M, -59% in the 2nd weekend), France ($ 30.0M, the film surpassed 3,031,945 admissions after 8 weeks becoming the 11th most viewed movie in the franchise), Japan ($ 21.7M), the Netherlands ($ 20.1M) and Russia ($ 12.1M).
Venom: Carnage’s Fury grossed $ 11.4M, totaling $ 227.6M in international territories and $ 424.6M at the global box office. These are the best grossing internationally: Russia ($ 31.5M), Mexico ($ 22.8M), UK ($ 22.1M), South Korea ($ 17.8M), France ($ 12.5M), Brazil ($ 11.1M), Germany ($ 9.8 M), Spain ($ 9.2M) and Italy ($ 8.0M).
Dune grossed $ 11.1M over the weekend, totaling $ 246.5M, globally at $ 330.4M. The main territories are: China ($ 36.7M), France ($ 30.2M), UK ($ 23.0M), Russia ($ 21.0M), Germany ($ 20.9M), Spain ($ 9.5M), South Korea ($ 9.0M, Italy ( $ 8.6M), Netherlands ($ 6.0M), Japan ($ 5.8M, Taiwan ($ 5.5M), Mexico ($ 4.7M).
Closing the global Top 5 of the best-grossing Hollywood films, Halloween Kills with $ 37.3M in international territories and $ 127M at the global box office.
UK
Eternals of Chloe Zhao , the only new entry in the UK was ranked first, with £ 5.5m from 642 rooms, with an average of £ 8,499. A result just under Shang-Chi (£ 5.8M). Excluding previews, Eternals recorded the fourth best weekend of 2021, behind No Time To Die, Venom: Carnage’s Fury and Shang-Chi .
No Time To Die dropped to second place and surpassed the box office of Avengers: Endgame (£ 88.7M), grossed £ 2M (-43%) in its sixth weekend for a total of £ 89.9M, the fifth best collection of all time in UK & Ireland. Will it outperform Avatar (£ 94M) and SPECTER (£ 95.2M)?
Dune grossed £ 1.6M (-51.5%), for a total of £ 16.8M. The film is well on its way to becoming Denis Villeneuve ‘s most successfultitle, which currently belongs to Blade Runner 2049 (£ 19.2M). After four weeks Venom: Carnag’s Fury and still not making the gross of the first film (£ 20.2M), it grossed £ 670,000 for a total of £ 16.2M.
Spencer of Pablo Larrain does not reach the opening of Jackie (£ 663.110), the film on Diana Princess has cashed £ 418.179 from 183 cinemas, with an average of £ 2,285. The film grossed £ 74,042 from premieres, bringing the total to £ 492,221.
South Korea
Eternals took a record 3.7M on Sunday at the South Korean box office, dominating 81.5% of the market. The film concluded its first weekend, Wednesday through Sunday, with $ 14.3M and 1.6M tickets sold. At the same time Black Widow had grossed $ 12.1M, Venom 2 ($ 9.27M), Shang-Chi ($ 6.63M), No Time To Die ($ 4.55M), Dune ($ 3.47M).
This is the fifth best opening during the pandemic, beating Black Widow (11.7M).
