Some titles that come to PC this 2023 are asking for a minimum of 16GB of RAM , double the conventional amount.
PC games generally required an average of 8GB of RAM to run smoothly, with 16GB only for Ultra settings or no compromises in graphics quality.
However, times have changed and the new video games of 2023 are ending this minimum value and have set a new standard: 16GB for minimum and 32GB for higher qualities.
The specific cases
During 2022, the Returnal video game announced that it would come to PC after its exclusive release for PlayStation 5 .
The game, however, was surprising because it asked for configurations that had 32GB as the standard for high qualities.
The news was striking, but at that time it passed as an anecdote because it would be a port of a high-tech console like the PS5 . But the problem continues.
Now Forspoken is the one that falls into the media because, in its launch for PS5 and PC at the same time, it is asking for a minimum of 16GB of RAM to play at 720p, an average quality. To play it in 1080p it is asking for 24GB of RAM and 32GB for ultra quality.
And it’s not like every setup needs this high-end to work. In average performance, the game also asks for an AMD Ryzen 5 1600 processor , an NVIDIA GTX 1060 graphics card (we are already in the 40th generation) and only 150GB of HDD storage.
PS4 games still ask for 8GB
Titles released until a few months ago, such as God of War or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II itself , despite being recent, required 8GB of RAM for normal PC qualities. Both were released for PS4.
In the future, it seems that the PS5 games that also arrive on PC will have a 16GB standard, so if you are a gamer, it is better to consider increasing the setup to adapt to these specifications.
