After sixteen weeks in theaters, Makoto Shinkai ‘s Suzume (Suzume no Tojimari) achieved a weekend gross of ¥13.93 billion ($102.2M) and sold more than 10.48 million tickets.
The film rose to the 15th place of the top-grossing film at the Japanese box office, and the ninth Japanese animated feature film ever.
In recent weeks, it has outsold Top Gun: Maverick ; The Last Samurai and Jujutsu Kaisen 0 , released in 2021 with a gross of ¥13.8 billion.
The next target is Weathering With You at 14th place with ¥14.23 billion, released in 2019, also directed by Shinkai .
The film will be released in Indonesia and the Philippines from March 8, and in Singapore from March 9. Crunchyroll with Sony Pictures and Wild Bunch International will distribute the film worldwide except Asia on April 12, 2023 .
