Apple is not the only giant to withdraw all its products from the Russian market in response to the actions against Ukraine . Now Microsoft is also “suspending” all sales and services in Russia, and halting various “aspects” of its business in the Russian country to comply with US, UK and EU sanctions .

Microsoft Chairman Brad Smith announced the company’s decision Friday as more Western companies take action against Russia following the invasion of Ukraine .

This move comes after Microsoft blocked several Russian outlets on its platforms, and after Ukraine’s deputy prime minister asked the company founded by Bill Gates to stop Russian Xbox accounts .

Microsoft blocks Russia

Microsoft saw that withdrawing from Russia was virtually necessary . According to Smith, president of the company, he hopes that these “concrete steps” will have a great impact, and that little by little there will be “additional steps” depending on the development of events between Ukraine and Russia.

Bill Gates , the founder of Microsoft , has called the invasion  “unwarranted, unprovoked and illegal” and is keen to identify and counter Russian cyberattacks against Ukraine.
