The first Minions , spin-off of the Despicable Me saga , ended with an appearance of Gru, the protagonist of the mother saga, as a kid. This sequel – directed by the director of the first chapter, Kyle Balda , along with Brad Ableson – will focus on the transformation of Gru into the supervillain we know and the birth of the collaboration between Gru and the Minions.

The plot

In the 70s, long before becoming the master of evil, Gru (Oscar nominee Steve Carell voiced in Italian by Max Giusti) is just a 12-year-old from the suburbs, who plots to conquer the world from his basement, without great results. When Gru meets the Minions, including Kevin, Stuart, Bob and Otto – a new Minion with braces and a desperate need to please – they join forces as a weird family. Together, they build their lair, experimenting with their first weapons and landing their first missions. When the infamous super group of villains, the Evils 6, oust their leader – the legendary fighter Wild Knuckles (Oscar winner Alan Arkin) – Gru, their die-hard fan, goes to an interview to become the newest member of the group. The Evil 6 are initially unimpressed by the wannabe villain, but then Gru outsmart them, infuriating them to suddenly find himself the deadly enemy of the worst villains in the world. With Gru on the run, the Minions try to learn the art of kung fu to help Gru who finally discovers that even bad guys sometimes need help from friends.

The film is produced by visionary Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri and his longtime collaborators Janet Healy and Chris Renaud .
