MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – DEAD RECKONING, TOM CRUISE’S MOTORCYCLE STUNT WAS SHOT ON THE FIRST DAY ON SET

It’s no secret that Hollywood blockbusters focus on individual memorable sequences, often remembered more than the plot they tell.

Even the Mission: Impossible saga tends to enhance the spectacular nature of some scenes, where Tom Cruise continually raises the bar of danger. Such stunts are very important in the economics of production, and are conceived before we even know why Ethan Hunt needs to perform similar feats: in other words, the action arises before its causes.

The confirmation comes from those directly involved, who have spoken with Empire for the release of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning: Part One . Director Christopher McQuarrie says the incredible motorcycle stunt was shot on the first day of shooting, and only then integrated into the storyline.

Doing it on day one gave us all the time in the world to figure out why [Ethan] was doing what he was doing. If we sat down and tried to construct these films the old-fashioned way, we would never succeed, simply because [the film] is a living, breathing creature.

Tom Cruise adds:

It’s never the easy road. I have a responsibility to the public, the studio, the crew, my cast and the industry. We can’t compromise [everything] just because these things happened. I can’t compromise the story.

This non-linear method has characterized the entire production. Explains Pom Klementieff , who plays a mysterious new antagonist with a colorful appearance:

It always goes back and forth between the beginning and the end of the film. They always check what they have, and then reshoot during the shoot.

Vanessa Kirby (aka White Widow ) gives a concrete example:

We were filming in a train car. Due to Covid we moved on but then realized we needed something else to make a connection. We went back to that scene even two months ago. It’s nice to know that it’s going to be the best version [of that scene], and that they won’t stop until they get it.

I remind you that the release is expected on July 12 , while Part 2 will arrive on June 28, 2024 . The Italian distribution is handled by Eagle Pictures . Below you can see a new official photo.
