MWC 2023: The new Honor Magic 5 Pro is the most ambitious phone after the separation of Huawei

Honor v presented its new high-end smartphone Magic 5 Pro at MWC 2023 , with a 50 MP triple array and Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor.

When Honor previewed the news it planned to present at MWC 2023 , the strategy became clear to us: to launch a high-end phone and a foldable smartphone at the same time each year. Along with the global presentation of Magic Vs , Huawei’s former sub-brand has decided to erase stigmas and present to society the high point of its own development: this is the new Magic 5 Pro.

Honor Magic 5 Pro: the safe continuity

In almost all aspects, the equipment represents a healthy continuity of the 2022 Magic 4 Pro concept , although details are adjusted and certain conditions are reduced to leave us with a more mature equipment and with sufficient rudiments to improve what was seen in the previous model.

To begin with, we are facing a 6.81-inch panel that extends on its four curved edges that go in the direction of aluminum and that generate this sensation of depth on the screen when viewing content. This panel, by the way, works hand in hand with a discrete chi that improves the quality of the images without drawing power from the main processor.

If we take the Magic 4 Pro as a reference, the rear cover softens the transition between the chassis and the lens arrangement, giving a little more prominence to the new version of the “eye of the muse” on the frosted glass.

Honor Magic 5 Pro: new cameras

This 2023 edition changes certain details of the previous model. Although we keep a similar metric in the main lens and the UGA, the phone drops from 64 to 50 MP assigning a Sony IMX 858 sensor for better details in the use of 100X. In addition, a new image engine is added for more complex and long-shot captures. To this, Honor baptizes it as Falcon Capture and AI Motion Sensing Capture.

Other sensors are added to this camera system to complement the work of the main sensors. We now have a dToF sensor for depth, a multispectral color temperature meter and a flicker light sensor. The selfie camera repeats last year’s formula with a wide viewing angle sensor and 3D system.

Honor Magic 5 Pro: power and autonomy

As announced in November 2022, Qualcomm is Honor’s partner in this venture, and we move up to a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 pushed by 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage. This integrated guarantees the inclusion of WiFi 7 and 5G support in both SIM slots, but only leaves us with Bluetooth 5.2.

Just as the cameras are modified, the autonomy undergoes a change. Although the battery increases the capacity from 4600 to 5100 mAh, it reduces the charging speed from 100 to 66W and wireless charging in half, which goes from 100 to 50W.
